Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ only airport Ercan, has been recently expanded and renovated for tourist traffic. The airport is situated 12 km (7 miles) east of Nicosia, 45 km from Denizkizi Hotel and is busy with flights from Turkey. Unfortunately due to the TRNC not being internationally recognized all flights to Northern Cyprus touch down on Turkish mainland first. From Europe, touch down is usually to Istanbul, Izmir and Antalya. Conveniently passengers are not required to leave the plane but merely patiently wait for approximately 45 minutes while refueling and cleaning take place. Scheduled flights to Northern Cyprus are usually by Cyprus Turkish Airlines (CTA), Turkish Airlines (THY), Pegasus Airlines and SunExpress. With CTA, flights are regularly available from UK Heathrow, Stanstead, Gatwick, Manchester, Glasgow, Belfast and some destinations from Germany.Flights are generally fully booked during the high season (May – October) and it is advisable to book and confirm places and tickets well in advance of your planned holiday. The average adult return fare from England is £250 but cheaper methods are available for those who do not mind the hassle of traveling to Istanbul and then buying a separate return ticket (usually £80) to Ercan from there. |
